The Ford F-150 - Four Decades of Improvements

As America's favorite pickup truck, the Ford F-150, has its 40th birthday this year, it's celebrating in a big way. With new changes and a headline-grabbing, powerful, new engine, we here at Rowe Ford Auburn are pretty excited to bring our customers the upgraded 2018 F-150.

The F-150 is the light-duty variant of Ford's phenomenally successful F-series line of pickup trucks. As the bestselling vehicle in the country for years, the F-150 was already a great vehicle for a multitude of uses. Then, Ford went and made it even better.

The Ford F-150

Here at Rowe Ford Auburn, one of the first things our customers from Portland notice is how the 2018 F-150 can be ordered and customized to suit their exact needs.

Not only is there a variety of cab styles, bed lengths, engines, and special features to choose from, there's also a bunch of terrific trim levels available.

What's New for the 2018 F-150?

The biggest news for the F-150's 40th year is a new, turbocharged, diesel-powered V6 engine. The "Power Stroke" diesel engine debuts in 2018 and it promises to give our Scarborough and South Portland drivers even more options for their Ford pickup truck.

In other big 2018 news, the other, already existing F-150 engines are also getting revisions and updates.

The base engine in the F-150, a 3.5-liter V6, will come with more power and better fuel efficiency than in previous model years. Also, the model's turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 and 5.0-liter V8 engines both receive a bump up in power and a new ten-speed automatic transmission.

Rounding out the truck's 40th birthday celebration is a slight facelift for the frontend, and automatic start-stop functioning for every F-150 engine.

2018 Ford F-150 Configurations

The Ford-built F-150 for 2018 is stronger than ever, too, thanks to the aluminum body construction the model received a couple of years ago. This incredibly strong chassis is still available in three cab styles and multiple bed lengths, though, including:

  • Regular cab style, available with either a standard, 6-foot 6-inch bed, or a longer, 8-foot long bed
  • SuperCab, this extended cab style is also available with either the standard or long, 8-foot bed
  • SuperCrew, the crew cab is only available with either a short bed that measures 5-feet, 6-inches long, or the standard bed

2018 Ford F-150 Trims

There are also multiple trim levels drivers can choose from in the 2018 Ford F-150. The list of options includes:

  • Base trim XL
  • XLT
  • Lariat
  • King Ranch
  • Platinum
  • Limited
  • Raptor (although not considered a part of the vehicle's traditional lineup, but worthy of mention because of its awe-inspiring power and off-road prowess)

2018 Ford F-150 Safety and Features Technology

Starting at the F-150 base trim XL, drivers can get some nice technological amenities equipped on their trucks. Standard features include automatic headlights, a 4.2-inch central display screen, and a driver information display.
