Performance
The open road is calling after the new Ford Explorer, and it doesn't hurt that this vehicle can deliver exceptional off-road capability. Two powertrain types are offered across the lineup. The Active, ST-Line, and Platinum trims come standard with a 2.3-liter turbocharged engine that makes an estimated 310 pound-feet of torque and 300 horsepower. The ST trim comes standard with a 3.0-liter engine, twin-turbocharged engine that cranks out as much as 415 pound-feet of torque and 400 horsepower. The brand's SelectShift innovation via paddle-mounted shifters is also available for the ST trim. You can even customize your commute by toggling through different drive modes. There is a setting for sand/snow, eco, and sport. Rear-wheel drive comes standard, but all-wheel drive is still an option.
